Xiaomi revealed, this (22), the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 . The new edition of the fitness bracelet was unveiled to the public with a larger 1.62-inch screen, but without changing the traditional pill format. The device also has a battery that promises to last up to 15 days and has received improvements in the pulse oximeter (SpO2).
The release follows the same pill-shaped look as previous generations. The difference is in the AMOLED screen, which rose to 1.62 inches and gained support for always-on (AOD). The device still has water resistance (5 ATM) and weighs 13.5 grams in the conventional model or 13.8 grams in the edition with NFC.
The smart band also offers options to make it more personality. The device has more than a hundred dials on the home screen and has received increments to make animations more fluid. In addition, the bracelets can be easily exchanged for options in the following colors: blue, white, orange, black, rosé and green.
Long-lasting battery and improved oximeter
The technical data sheet of the launch still has a 180 mAh battery. According to the manufacturer, the wearable promises to spend 15 days away from outlets with typical use and 9 days with more intense use. Recharging is done by a magnetic charger that is attached to the back of the device.
The new generation kept the features to monitor the user’s fitness. This is the case with the oximeter, which received an update to monitor blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) continuously. The sensor will also notify the user if the oxygen gauge drops below 90%.
Like other wearables today, the Mi Band 7 is capable of following more than 120 different exercises. Among the modalities are stretching, running, cycling and the like. The fitness bracelet even offers options to detect your heart rate, monitor sleep and more.
To use it, you need a phone with Android 6.0 or iOS 10.0 and newer generations of the respective operating systems.
Always-on display feature, improved health monitoring
The biggest change on the Mi Band 7 is the slightly increased OLED screen size of 1.62-inch—up from 1.56-inch of the Mi Band 6. It remains to be edge-to-edge and comes with a 490 x 192 pixel resolution and always-on function. Additionally, the new band gets 25% more useable screen area.
First on Xiaomi’s fitness tracker bands is the continuous monitoring of SpO2 or blood oxygen saturation. According to the company, the new sensors used in the Mi Band 7 have improved accuracy and offer less power consumption. Along with the automatic workout detection is the expansion to 120 workout modes from the previous 30 modes.
2-week battery life and new band options
In terms of battery, the smart tracker is rated with 14 days battery life despite the significant upgrade on the battery size to 180 mAh from 125 mAh. Probably, this is because of the always-on display, but that is yet to be confirmed once we get our hands on the device. Unfortunately, the charging speed has not improved. It will take around 2 hours to fully charge the new band.
The company is also introducing fluorescent and camouflage band options on top of the default bands that are equipped with antibacterial material. Xiaomi says the antibacterial agent in the band can deflect bacterias such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with 99% efficiency.
