The history of electricity

The history of electricity goes back thousands of years, from the first discoveries about static electricity by the ancient Greeks and Chinese. However, the modern history of electricity began in the 1600s with the discovery of frictional electricity by William Gilbert.

In the 18th century, Benjamin Franklin conducted experiments with electricity and invented the lightning rod. Later, Alessandro Volta developed the first electric battery in 1800, which allowed the production of direct electric current.

In the 19th century, electricity began to be used on a large scale, with the invention of the electric motor by Michael Faraday and the discovery of Ohm's law by Georg Ohm, which allowed the development of electrical energy distribution systems.

Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were two inventors who made important contributions to the history of electricity. Edison developed the first marketable incandescent lamp and created the first direct current power plant in 1882. Tesla, in turn, developed the alternating current motor and contributed to the development of large-scale electrical power distribution.
